Hawkeye - Main On End Title Sequence

Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye - Main On End Title Sequence

If I were to go back in time and tell my high-school self that I would work on a title sequence for Marvel, my head would explode. I was so incredibly thankful to be apart of this amazing team with Perception NYC & Marvel Studios. This entire experience was very humbling, challenging, and yet one of the biggest highlights of my career thus far. We were tasked with creating the Opening Titles, and Main On End sequences for episodes 2-6.

My Life As A Weapon

Because the show’s narrative was heavily influenced by the amazing Matt Fraction & David Aja run in the comics, we wanted to pull inspiration from that as well. So we ended up with a very graphic style in the same vein as David Aja & Saul Bass.

I was thrilled to be able to work on the actual ending title card for the show.

Easter Eggs

Unlike most projects, I was brought onto the team in the design phase, so it was really exciting to help guide the project visually in terms of style and motion. As fan of both the comics and Marvel Studios, I also enjoyed finding ways to bring in visual references for fans like myself.

Clint & Kate’s famous coffee mugs from the “My Life as a Weapon” comic book by Matt Fraction & David Aja, with a bit of Christmas flair, to nod to the television series.

The Style

Another fun challenge was giving this flatter graphic illustration style some dimensionality to make it feel a bit more cinematic with the series. This resulted in a wild blend of 2D, 3D and hand-drawn animation.

A unique sequence every episode

In certain episodes, you’ll notice that a new frame has been added reflecting a key event from the evolving plot. These more spoiler-driven frames were extremely fun to concept & design.

The stand-off between Maya, Yelena and Clint & Kate. This was a quick idea I had towards the end of my booking and I was thrilled to see it in the official episode. Animated lovingly by Steve Savalle.

Cutting Room Floor

This was one of my initial pitches for the big Kingpin reveal. Knowing the character from the comics, I liked the idea of him looming over the city and his silhouette constructed by the buildings themselves. He is the city.
