Moon Knight

Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight - Main On End Title Sequence

After working on the Main on End Title Sequence for Hawkeye, I didn’t think I’d work on another title sequence for Marvel, but luckily my friends at Perception NYC invited me back to work on the Disney+ series for Marvel’s debut of Moon Knight. I am incredibly proud of how these turned out and I have the whole amazing team to thank for all of their work.

The Tone

This series was much darker compared to other properties in the MCU and we really wanted to make sure our work reflected the mysterious & unsettling look developed by the showrunners. We wanted things to feel elegant but also shifting constantly to bring a sense of restlessness.

Fractured Reflections

Marc Spector is an extremely unique character due to his multiple personalities. The series already created a visual language of allowing these personalities to communicate via reflections, but we also wanted to allude to the fractured mind and to the multiple personalities within our hero by showing cracks in our reflections or duplicates of Marc, with slight variations.

Research

Moon Knight has very heavy ties to Egyptian mythology, which was really intriguing for our team to study and carefully implement into our sequence. We wanted to be as authentic as possible to both the series and Egyptian history.

“Rise and live again as my fist of vengeance, my Moon Knight”

Production designers for the series actually developed an entire language of hieroglyphics. Here, we have the oath of Khonshu which you can also see engraved on Moon Knight’s costume.

An Evolving Sequence

Fans of the series quickly caught on that each episode had a slightly evolving sequence. To keep in line with the evolving mystery, the end titles for every episode opens with a new location (reflecting where our character is) and we collaborated heavily with Marvel Studios to show the moon going through proper lunar phases.

Development

This project was extremely humbling because I wouldn’t consider realistic 3D to be my strongest skill. But throughout the project I put in a lot of effort to learn new techniques with the amazing support of the pros at Perception.

This was a rough 3D model of Oscar Isaac that I made with projection mapping, which we utilized in conjunction with traditional modeling & texturing.

I also got to develop the actual end logo for the show. I really wanted the reveal of the title to emulate the way light passes over the moon.

To celebrate the series premiere of Moon Knight, I created a short teaser video to show off some of the skills I developed during the project and try to recreate the feeling of our title sequence.
